YOUR Role as a
South Windsor Little League PARENT
You can help to make this season as safe, enjoyable, and rewarding as possible for your child and yourself by observing these simple guidelines:
1. Sign and return the medical authorization card that your coach will give to you at the first team meeting or practice. Sign it before practice begins. If your coach forgets to give you one, ask him or her for it.
2. Make sure your child is properly equipped to play at every practice and game. Each child should have:
- a glove
- sneakers (plastic cleats are OK; metal cleats are NOT permitted)
- protective cup (strongly recommended for all boys; mandatory for all boy catchers)
- safety lenses for prescription eyeglasses
Note: Bats are provide by SWLL. If you purchase a bat, make sure it bears the Little League approval; non-approved bats are not useable in games.
3. Arrange to get your child to each game and practice on time and ready to play. Pick up your child immediately after each game or practice – don’t make him or her and the coach wait. Better yet, STAY and WATCH! Your child will appreciate it, and it’s fun!
4. Set a good example. Show respect for umpires, coaches and players (including your own child!) at all times—especially when you disagree with a call or ruling. This is a game. Let the children enjoy it.
5. Help your child develop skills by practicing with him or her. Play catch in the yard, or go to a batting cage. We have yet to hear a parent lament in later year that they wished they had spent less time with their children.
6. VOLUNTEER. You don’t need to know baseball or commit a lot of time to help out. Many hands make light work. Ask your coach how you can help.
7. Let us know how we can improve.
Please note that every Saturday morning at 8:00am volunteers are at the complex maintaining the fields. Extra hands are always welcome.
Volunteers are also needed at the remote fields. Talk to your coach about volunteering.
Fields need to be raked before and after each game.
Please become involved in some small way throughout the season. Donate an hour or two of your time this season!
Thank you!
